From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
We found that everything was made very personal and caring for our family at a difficult time. We couldn't fault anything.
We first met Kelly who lead us through all we had to do very patiently and was considerate to our feelings. Then I got a lovely call from Katie who explained she would be leading the funeral. The funeral went as well as could be expected. I’d like to mention Jude Edwards the celebrant who took the service as she got my mum exactly right. Overall an excellent service from Dillistones and Wraights.
As I do not live in the Worthing area all the arrangements were done by phone and email. The process went without any problems and all the staff were very professional. The day itself went smoothly. A special mention goes to Jane who I dealt with and Laura the celebrant they recommended, both did an amazing job and reduced my stress levels greatly.
Dillistone & Wraights dealt with our mothers funeral with compassion & professionalism, from start to finish. Nothing was to much trouble for them. The team where all very caring, & Tony the Celebrant was fantastic in putting over the story of our mothers life. Highly recommend.
From the very first phone call, Dillistone and Wraights took great care over the funeral arrangements for my late father. Jane was friendly, sympathetic and organised, responding swiftly to any of our queries. Her attention to detail when putting together the order of service was appreciated. On the day of the funeral the team looked after us all very well. They completed dad’s last journey along the seafront as requested which was emotional but lovely. Our driver was compassionate and kind and my nephew loved riding in the black limo. All in all Dillistone made dad’s funeral very special and everyone felt at ease, not having to worry about the finer details. The family and friends could focus on the day itself. Thank you to the whole team.
